about

(Review by Stuporous Funker)

While looking through the dollar bin at my local record store, I found an intriguing looking promo. Every few months, though rarer these days, the cheap bin coughs up something magical. The faded parchment color and trippy artwork looked inviting, the songtitles whimsical but most importantly and what sealed the deal: the bandmembers and instruments listed on the back contained no mention of a vocalist.

Within seconds of consumption, I was hooked. By the final track I was ensorcelled. Well recorded and mixed, tightly orchestrated and amazingly organic. Cascading clean guitar over grooves. Though the guitar is the main soloing instrument, all the voices are balanced; just amazing instrumental music. I have nothing else quite like it. I'd have the album already now, but...

... it's only available as a download. No physical manifestation to take a place of honor on my top-shelf next to Gordian Knot, maudlin of the Well, Agalloch, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Black Sabbath, Nick Drake or any other great transcending albums. Nothing tangible that can escape the wrath of a virus/crash. I have but to get internet for my home again to download it and burn a disc surely, but for albums I like this much, Id gladly buck the trend and waste the valuable cubic centimeters on (truly) owning this.

Also, just goes to show how useful a physical record store can be. As often as Im on Amazon, Ive never seen this and might not have ever given it a second thought. Thank Science for Schoolkids! Support your local Independent Record Store!

about

Enloom Houston, Texas

"Enloom kind of sounds like what happens when you get stuck down the rabbit hole. That’s not a bad thing, as it’s nice to hear a band that’s proggy and psychedelic actually live up to those monikers"
